The forgotten Jewish Refugees

The continuing conflict in the Middle East continues to be dominated by a very one sided narrative which focuses on the Palestinian Naqba but ignores the plight of the Jewish refugees from Arab countries at the time.

As a result of persecution whole communities have disappeared. Where are the Jews of Algeria or Libya? This story needs to widely told as a necessary part of any attempt at reconciliation which will eventually form the necessary peace process needed in the region.

This year a number of Arab countries have taken steps to both recognise and normalise relations with the state of Israel. This process can only benefit both Jewish and Palestinian people seeking to lead peaceful lives.

A campaign has been launched to draw peoples attention to the forgotten Jewish Refugees from Arab countries. This short video gives an introduction to the history and issues involved. Infformation on how you can help follows:

Luke Akehurst writes:

With our partners at Israel Britain Alliance (IBA) we have launched a new petition calling for the UK government to ensure that the public understand the full history of the Middle East and designate 30 November as a national day of awareness where we remember and commemorate the plight of Jewish refugees, 850,000 of whom, who had lived for generations in Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen were forced to leave their homes and their property to flee persecution after 1948.

Please sign the petition here: https://www.israelbritain.org.uk/wb/ and share it with your friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter.
